Taboo “love” stuffs in workplace and reasons why it happens

I hate office romance.

Even if you say that it’s nothing serious, fuck dude, I hate it. This article would probably hit a lot of people as if I am casting an AOE spell but it’s a hybrid AOE ‘cuz it hits everything in map lol. And by “everything in map”, I mean the whole world.

This could be just me being pessimistic in everything, but hey, take time in conversing with me through this article, okay? I guarantee you it’s not just a trash rant of some girl in her twenties. It’s something important. If it does end up looking like a rant, just comment your fuck down and let’s see if I’ll give a damn.

Moving on,

when I got myself into employment, I couldn’t believe what I was seeing and hearing.

Maybe it’s just in “that” industry, but I assume it also exists in other industries. Well, the story is, I was 18 years old when I entered the call center industry. I was surprised at how most people can communicate openly those “green” stuffs. They joke about it as if it was something normal as drinking water. No one bats an eye. There were only very few people not joining the uncomfortable conversation.

One time, I became the subject of their joke because I told them I didn’t want to hear those stuffs. Yeah they were just kidding but being a serious person I am, I had to draw a line. My voice echoed in the room and everyone fell silent for a short period. I made it clear that I won’t allow them to include me in such stuffs.

I don’t hate my co-workers. They are actually good persons. I just hated what they were doing in the office.

I thought that open communication of green stuffs was the only taboo thing that I’ll encounter in the workplace. I had other jobs too. And the people I met are the same in a way that their pervness was open, at least to our team or department. I had to do my best to ignore that and to not hurt anyone by being blunt.

But you know what? I was wrong.

There is something else that made me cringe more than the open pervness of people in the office:

TABOO LOVE STUFFS.

Yep. Taboo relationships. Taboo love interests. Unacceptable shits that happen in the workplace that would probably make any one’s partner outside the workplace go Yandere mode :v

Maybe I’m just overreacting, or I just think too much, but am I wrong in thinking that everyone should behave? Or rather, be disciplined? Or, consider some moral shits :v

We had a situation wherein one of our girl co-worker was being courted by our male co-worker. Both of them have their own husband and wife outside, and both have their own kid. I don’t know the whole story dude, I figured I don’t give a fuck what they do to their own lives.

One female co-worker opened up to me and said she tried putting some sense into her friend, reminding that she has a family outside, but it seems she won’t budge. She was stressed in worry. I advised her to let go of the two morons building taboo relationship in our workplace because if they want to get their selves into trouble, then be it. Let them play fire and get burnt.

I also told her that the two morons just ended up liking each other now because they see each other a lot and they talk a lot in our workplace. Ever heard of Propinquity effect and Mere exposure effect? I’ll discuss it later, I’m gonna show some proofs you know. (Told ya, this isn’t just a waste-of-time-rant, ‘cuz you’re gonna learn something from it).

Another annoying situation in the workplace is when people already know that a certain someone is already in a relationship with a person outside the workplace but his/her colleagues still push teasing another one of their colleagues to him/her.

dsfd

Just how far can people go with stupidity?

You already know that the person has someone else yet you still push one of your colleagues to him/her. Wow. I see and hear this often and I am really irritated.

It seems to me that those people are encouraging an affair in the workplace, an affair that should not exist.

If not affair, then what?

Tell me what is the goal of this stupid shit you are doing.

People may say that they are just having fun and nothing’s wrong with it and other shits to cover their ass.

But here’s what I see:

Let’s make a scenario. Maria works in X company. She is in a very good relationship with her boyfriend Ken. Ken is not working in X company. Maria has colleagues and one of them is George. Maria’s colleagues are somehow aware of George’s liking to Maria. So, they always tease Maria to George and vice versa.

Teasing George to Maria amplifies his infatuation to her. And if this always happen, Maria can be affected too. She might feel a false interest towards George. And the moron colleagues have brewed a taboo “love”.

Why did George take a liking to Maria?

Well dude, it’s because of Propinquity Effect.

What is Propinquity Effect?

qw5

So yeah, the more physically close a person is to you, the more you like that person. George is in the same space as Maria. And that space is the office of X Company.

Another effect associated with Propinquity is the “Mere exposure effect”.

qw2

The more that we see something, the more that we like it. The more we see or be with someone, the more we like them. For example, you heard a song on the radio. You don’t like that song. But since it is constantly played on the radio, you start to like it. Repetition dude.

qw6

Source: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mere-exposure_effect

See? Even if in the first place, you don’t like something, if you are exposed to that, your fool brain tends to like it.

Same to having romantic interest to people in your vicinity :v

Instead of George fighting the propinquity and mere exposure effect, and the same for Maria, they fall into a fake love. Let’s also blame their colleagues of course, for the repetition of their bullshit (that goes into mere exposure effect).

Humans spend the whole day working somewhere. We only meet our family and friends outside during night. What little time we have there. There is weekend but 2 days? 5-6 days work is still higher.

Aside from fighting this propinquity and mere exposure shits, the colleagues should stop reinforcing the taboo love interest or relationship.

And that is why I hate office romance. Nowadays office romance is acceptable by majority and some love stories rooted from office romance have succeeded. But still, I don’t like it.

It’s like an evolved form of falling “in love” with your classmate.

Why the fuck did I write this article?

  1. This has been bothering me.
  2. My boyfriend is being teased to some female colleagues by their colleagues lol

If you know that someone is already owned by someone, BACK OFF.

Life is more than just getting a diploma

When I was a kid, all I wanted was to finish my studies. I thought finishing college would make my life great. You know, my father is only an elementary graduate and my mother has finished a 2yr Criminology. My parents said “Finish college so you can get a good job” and “You can get off from poverty if you finish your studies”.

I did. I finished my studies. My family’s income is too low to support me for college. I made a way. I studied well during elementary and high school. I always get good grades, always straight As. So for college, I acquired an academic scholarship in a school for rich kids. I got a 100% tuition and fees scholarship + monthly allowance. Of course, in order to maintain those privileges, I gotta maintain my grades. I was able to maintain it for 3 years.

Fourth year, I lost my scholarship. How will my family be able to pay my expensive tuition fee when my father’s salary is barely enough to sustain our family? I worked for a few months. Then, I went back to school. My parents had to loan from some people to help me pay my tuition fee.

And now I’m graduating. I will get a diploma.

But you know, I’m not really happy. This diploma, it’s just a piece of paper declaring I have finished college. Then what? Submit it to those companies that require their employees to be a college graduate.

Hahh. I was able to get a job even without this diploma. I worked as a Technical support with a monthly salary of 18,000 PHP. In the BPO industry, especially call centers, they don’t need you to be college graduates, folks. And they can give higher salary than those usual jobs in the office where you get paid for only 12,000 PHP for entry-level.

You may also do your own business. You just need a capital. To get a capital, you gotta be an employee first. Once you’ve earned enough money, you can leave and do your own business.

Our school said, and a lot of people said, once we graduate from our degree, we can acquire a job that would pay us for as much as 30,000 PHP for entry level. But I now know a lot of our world’s shits to be believing that. Hello? There are a lot of people in this world so not everyone can get that 30,000 PHP salary. In a company that has a job opening, there would be a lot of applicants. Just because you have a diploma doesn’t mean you’ll get accepted right away with high salary offer. Dude, there are exams first. Once you pass them, you should worry next for the initial interview. Then the final interview. And I tell you this, someone so intelligent can be rejected during the interview. Because fuck everything, companies are looking for this “people skills” and they will also assess you during the interview,  of course.

There’s a lot to worry. I have many more to say about my experience but I think that’s not important for this entry.

So yeah, you gotta pass the exams first, then the interviews. Plus, luck is also a factor here. It also usual for applicants with personal relationship or “ties” with someone important inside the company to get accepted right away or easily.

The lesson is, don’t get your hopes high.

Break from mainstream

A lot of things are getting mainstream today.

Be it games, fashion, anime, movie, etc.

Even though everyone is watching or playing or cosplaying it, it’s not enough reason for me to chase the same thing. Just because it’s a fad doesn’t mean we should follow it.

I admit I want to do a lot of things, like cosplay a character.

But the thing is, I have more important stuffs to do. Priorities dude.

Most of the tings getting mainstream, I’m not really interested on them.

I’m not a lemming who just follows the crowd.

I often oppose the trend.

I would like to be different.

Besides, I don’t like expectations.

Most people might oppose on this idea of mine.

Welp. We need Lemmings in order to have Peculiar beings just like there is an ignorant to define a genius. lol

Perfect face for COSPLAY?

Today, I was browsing my Facebook account when I stumbled upon one post:

lol1

A bunch of people, cosplayers and non-cosplayers, have reacted negatively to this post of Best of Anime (BOA).

Here’s a sample:

lol2

I am not destroying BOA’s reputation (I have attended some of their events and I enjoyed) by spreading this post, I am just sharing the news and I will give my view and speculations about it.

NOTE: This is just my opinion. I might be sarcastic, but I’m just being real :v

First, the no. 1 qualification: FEMALE

  • Perhaps they have chosen female over male because females are more into cosmetics. But as what the people have commented on the post, “Why female only? There are male cosplayers!”
  • Why is that? Because dude, females attract more audience than males do! Take note that between boys and girls, which one would pursue the opposite sex? It’s the boys!
  • Therefore, if the model is female, ohohoho~ They’ll get a lot of audience. Plus, males are into beautiful and sexy women. In cosplay events, which of the male and female get flocked by people and photographers? IT’S THE WOMEN.

Second, the no. 2 qualification: CHINESE/JAPANESE-LOOKING

  • “OH MY GOD!” is probably what people are thinking right now on that one. People with no Chinese or Japanese blood, you’re out.
  • We are in Philippines, and you want Chinese/Japanese looking models? “First blood!”
  • Looking back to Philippines’ history, during the ancient times, we have been trading with the Chinese people already and they have become part of the Filipino genes (a lot of Filipinos have Chinese roots). We were also invaded by Japan which gives some of us Japanese genes. But heck! That’s too much to wish. The only people that will qualify on that one would be those kids who have pure Chinese/Japanese parents :v
  • In the population of Filipino cosplayers, I am sure that people who look like Chinese/Japanese would be hard to find. Their population is too low. Maybe 1-5% :v
  • I’m out already because I don’t look Chinese/Japanese
  • Isn’t the purpose of the make-up tutorial is for us to look like an anime? So if you use such model, it defeats the purpose. lol

Third: DIAMOND SHAPED FACE

  • I am not sure if mine is Square or Diamond or Oblong.
  • Maybe the chose that face shape because it will look good with any styles (what style? I don’t know.)
  • Perhaps they think that anime characters have diamond shaped faces :v
  • I can’t distinguish face shapes so I cannot comment on this one.

Fourth: SHAVED EYEROWS

  • “ACE!”
  • No girl would ever, EVER, shave her eyebrows!
  • We’re not in the era of Mona Lisa wherein absence of eyebrows is beauty. We’re in the era wherein girls shape their eyebrows perfectly and even use stuffs to make it look beautiful.
  • They want to make a cosplay tutorial right? Why not just use cosmetics or whatever is necessary to hide the eyebrows and make it look thin? :v
  • I can’t imagine myself without my eyebrows. Eery.

Fifth: HAS THIN DOUBLE EYELIDS

  • I don’t fucking know what that is. But I asked Google. And I was like: “wtf”.
  • I have double eyelids but I am not sure if they are thin or thick. But the point is, they are looking for Chinese/Japanese-looking female with double eyelids? Isn’t that contradicting? Because such people normally have no double eyelids! I have friends whose eyes are slanted and they definitely do not have double eyelids.
  • Why not just use this product:
  • eyelid
  • That’s what my friend use because she has no double eyelids :v You glue that to your eyelid to make another eyelid.

Sixth: USED TO WEARING MAKE-UP

  • I can understand why would they search for a woman used to wearing make-up. One possible reason is that some people might be allergic to cosmetic products (like me) and if ever they experience allergic reactions, BOA might be held liable.
  • Another reason is so that the model can carry the look comfortably and can present herself well.
  • Plus, she can retouch herself.

Seventh: WITH VERY GOOD COMPLEXION

  • Anime characters usually are white-skinned. And make-up will look good with white people.
  • The problem is, Filipinos are tanned in nature. I used to be white, but I am too lazy to maintain my skin so I am currently tanned. And most of us are brown-skinned due to genes.
  • Why no just make a tanned girl look white? That’s the real make-up tutorial :v

So….people claim that BOA is discriminating.

As for me, it’s all about marketing. They chose the best-looking so as to boost marketing.

And another reason would be: They don’t know the real definition of Cosplay Make-up Tutorial.

Plus, it would be easier to get someone pretty than get someone not pretty and make her look pretty.

They didn’t put the qualifications that I think are the most important:

  • Must be a cosplayer.
  • Must be an anime otaku.
  • Must know the character to be portrayed by heart.

Well, what do you think? This issue is happening in Philippines but I bet cosplayers around the world can relate. And even the non-cosplayers.

I don’t want to be an employee!

It’s Friday today. I’m supposed to be in my OJT or Internship but I am here, customizing my blog.

I told my manager that I will do my thesis today so I cannot go to work.

The truth is, I’ve been doing my thesis for the past nights. After work, I go to school to meet with my groupmates and do our thesis. Meeting with our adviser is usually 6 or 7pm and it usually takes an hour. Then, we will go to a café and discuss what to do. It ends usually by 9 to 10pm. My work and school are far from my home. Riding a motor bike with my father, it will take us almost 2 hours to get home, with the traffic jam time included. So, we arrive at home by 11pm to 12am.

We’ve been meeting for a few nights now so I am really lacking in sleep. My work starts at 7am so I must leave from our house by 5am.

My head feels like floating in the air now and I don’t want to end up sleeping at work then get caught by the superiors and explain why I am asleep and possibly be removed from the company.

I need to rest.

That’s one factor why I don’t want to be an employee. You are bound by the company’s demands. You need to go out and arrive at the workplace on time. Spend 9-10 hours a day working. At work, you can’t sleep or rest. You can’t do what you want. You commute with other people, public vehicles are loaded, and you get tired. You spend the whole day there. When you go home, you will have no time for other stuffs unless you are willing to sacrifice your sleep. And I can’t because I’m anemic.

I’ll just discuss this further next time. I wanna sleep.

Ja~
